The “Yes-Day” … A Message To Dads!

Every year, sometime between Christmas and New Year’s, I give each of my kids their own “Yes-Day”. The Yes-Day consists of a full day, morning till evening where anything goes, I would not say No to anything they ask (within reason and means of course). It’s a day of no judgement, no rules (also within reason), and no real parenting; we hang out as buddies one-on-one, pure quality time.

My kids look forward to this day from year to year to do things they would not normally do. I will not go into the details of the things we do or how we spend the day — what happens during the Yes-Day, stays in Yes-Day — but I assure you, it gives them a boost and a chance to breathe from being parented.

You see, in this crazy world, where schedules are tighter than grandma’s grip on her secret apple pie (or wara2 3areesh in Lebanon) recipe, we all need a day to unleash the madness. The “Yes-Day” is that glorious escape hatch from reality, a chance for me to bond with my three little minions.

So, here what I want to say to dads; we are away a lot between jobs and responsibilities and we rarely have time for acting stupid… Yes, we’ve got jobs, bills, and the constant struggle to locate matching socks in the morning, but trust me, this one’s worth it.

My fellow dads, the “Yes-Day” is your golden ticket to momentarily escape the clutches of responsible adulthood. It’s a chance to dive headfirst into the unpredictable minds of your little humans. In the middle of the mayhem, you’ll discover the pure joy of being “Daddy” — the ringleader in this extravaganza of laughter, chaos, and shared memories. So, dads, embrace the madness, say “yes” to the unexpected — albeit for one day every year.

The “Yes-Day” isn’t just about saying “yes” to the ridiculous; it’s about saying “yes” to the moments that redefine your bond with your kids. In the whirlwind of chaos, laughter, and questionable taste combinations, we forge memories that will make us giggle, flinch, and, most importantly, strengthen the ties that make us a family of certified lunatics.

So, here’s to Yes-Day — the ultimate therapy session. Keep the laughter rolling and the chaos flowing!

Well folks, with this Verbal Breakdown, till the next one, keep it safe, keep it real, and keep it simple.
